Kardashians' Khroma Beauty Forced to Change Name

Kardashians will be forced to change the name of their beauty line, Khroma Beauty to...(take a wild guess)...Kardashian Beauty! I guess they couldn't think of anything more original that started with a "K".  Nothing like slapping the Kardashian name on everything to make a pretty penny.  The name change came in light of a $10 million lawsuit by a similarly named beauty company, Kroma who won an injunction to stop sales of Kardashian's Khroma Beauty.

Kardashian Khroma Beauty Served with Preliminary Injunction

Kardashian sisters' make-up line Khroma Beauty was served with a preliminary injunction by U.S. District Court for the Central District of California after getting into legal snafu with another similarly named beauty brand "Kroma".  This means that sales of the Kardashian beauty line will halt until a final decision is rendered. Apparently since Khroma was launched by the Kardashians, Tillett's line Kroma has seen a decrease in sales of 25%.

Judge Audrey Collins wrote in her ruling, "Tillett has demonstrated that it will likely lose business opportunities, customers, and goodwill due to Boldface's use of the confusingly similar Khroma Beauty marks. This Court has little doubt that, in short order, the Khroma Beauty products will likely eliminate Tillett's business entirely, creating irreparable harm to justify an injunction."

"Kontroversy" Over Kardashian's Khroma Beauty Make-Up Line

The Kardashian sisters once again are finding themselves in the middle of a "kontroversy." This time over the name of their make-up line Khroma Beauty.  In October, Chroma Makeup Studio posted a letter on its website which is still up, clarifying and distinguishing its brand from Khroma Beauty calling the Kardashian brand "low budget" and stating its intention to defend its trademark.  

The post reads, "[t]he recent releases issued by the Kardashians in regard to their Khroma Beauty product line have caused widespread confusion among our clients.  We have received many concerned inquiries from clients who are under the mistaken impression that Chroma Makeup Studio has somehow become associated with the Kardashians . . .Rest assured, Chroma Makeup Studio, which has a long-standing reputation for high quality colour line cosmetics and services, is NOT endorsing low budget cosmetic products that will be sold in mass retail outlets.  Chroma is in no way associated with the Kardashians."  It goes on to state, "all appropriate steps to defend its reputation and the 12 years of goodwill we have built under the CHROMA MAKEUP STUDIO trademark."
