De la Renta's CEO, Alex Bolen explained to WWD, "[w]e have things around here that are underutilized — [such as] 40 years of patterns, fabrics and artwork that a lot of people spent time on. We thought, perhaps we can put something together in a way that is new, that doesn’t require as much development time and in an exclusive way."
The OutNet's business model is selling surplus merchandise like an online outlet. They probably get most of their merchandise from their more well-known sister site Net-a-porter.com but this isn't the first time the OutNet collaborated with a designer for an exclusive collection. French label Paul & Joe, jeweler Erickson Beamon, Anna Sui, and many others have all also teamed up with the OutNet in the past.
If a lower-priced de la Renta line is not exciting enough, Olivia Palermo, model, socialite and former reality TV star will be the face of the collection! I have always loved Palermo's classic New York City cool style and am excited to see how she represents the collection.
Stephanie Phair, the OutNet's managing director said of Palermo, “[i]t’s all about reinterpreting classic styles, so we wanted someone polished who represented the Oscar brand but that also was someone that Oscar doesn’t typically use.”
